Membership

PANAF membership is free and open to all African artists, civil society organisations and culture producers defending artistic freedom and that stand firm in their conviction that a free, diverse, and vibrant culture promotes democratic.

 

WHY JOIN

  • To develop a strong, inclusive, and diverse Pan African Network of artists and culture producers, who will strengthen each other’s skills to advocate for artistic freedom all over the African continent and build alliances with other artistic rights defenders in the region.
  • To gain knowledge, share experiences, and develop skills and capacities through different events and training to become strong defenders of artistic freedom.
  • To engage in campaigns on specific cases; show solidarity with network members and other artists in challenging contexts at local or national level.
  • To engage in long-term advocacy work for the promotion of artistic freedom, pushing for policy adoption, the domestication of global, regional, and sub-regional commitments to artistic freedom.
  • To participate as organisers of workshops and speakers in debates, and through dissemination of network productions, raise awareness among culture actors and other allies on the need for joint actions for artistic freedom.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Potential members are creatives or organisations that are:
  • Active work in the field of artistic rights and / or human rights at the sub-national or national level.
  • Active in social mobilisation, research and advocacy in a peaceful, accountable and transparent manner;
  • Interested in the topic of artistic freedom.

 

Note:

  • Members of PANAF are expected to actively engage and work in a cordial manner with all members of PANAF at the national and international level.
  • Members are expected to participate in PANAF’s programmes, report violations and actively support the work of PANAF.
  • PANAF partners will play a key role in lobbying for membership from their respective countries.
