PANAF partners from Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique, Rwanda, Nigeria, Ethiopia, The Gambia, and Zambia met for the first time in Zanzibar, Tanzania between 10 and 14 February,  to review and approve the project’s work plan for the first year, 2022, as well as the PANAF Branding Strategy and Marketing and Communication Strategy. The meeting constituted a good opportunity to foster a working relationship among partners and the sharing of knowledge on artistic freedom in the context of music and film sectors in Africa.

The meeting met its objectives in understanding the state of artistic freedom in the participating countries and familiarising the participants with Selam’s over two decade experience on the continent particularly in capacity and institutional building, human rights, peace and reconciliation, tech and digitalisation as well as democracy and human rights. Following very active and lively discussions, partners were encouraged to remain in contact and exchange information beneficial to PANAF.

In order to maintain the high momentum and commitments reached during the meeting, it was decided to organise a follow-up meeting with each individual partner on the brainstorming and implementation of in-country activity plans and to issue jointly with Selam a press release announcing the partnership. The partners committed themselves to support the strengthening of PANAF and establishment of in-country partnerships and memberships, to strengthen its footprint on the continent.
